Is it necessary to register a foreigner in an apartment if part of their trip is spent in hotels?

Registration and Stay ✅ Answered

Question

A foreigner arrives in Russia as a tourist. On the first day, they stay in a hotel, then spend a week in my apartment, then back to a hotel before flying home. The hotels will handle registration themselves. Do I need to register them in my apartment?

Answer

Yes. If the foreigner is actually residing in your apartment, the host must arrange migration registration at this address if required by the timelines and rules.

The hotel handles registration only for the duration of the stay in the hotel. When a person moves to a private individual’s residence, the registration issue is resolved at the apartment address.
